Sometimes I just want to be a tourist in my hometown. You wonder how that works? Simple: book a room in a beautiful local hotel and enjoy the weekend. Last weekend I had the pleasure of staying at The George Hotel in Hamburg.
It’s located in the city centre any yet it is an oasis of peace and relaxation, situated right at the end of the Langereihe Strasse and within 5 min walking of the beautiful Außenalster. Depending on the room you choose you either get the view over St. Georg neighbourhood or the lake with the entire city panorama at sunset.
I prefer design hotels precisely because they are “different” – there is a lot of attention paid to details, atmosphere, ambiance and The George excels: the ground floor is shared by the DaCaio Restaurant and Bar with large spaces, high ceilings and British design through and through. Italian dinner & whines combined with British Bar and Tea: sign me up!
I wasn’t able to enjoy the Campari Lounge on the rooftop, as it only opens in warm weather (above 18°C) but I will certainly come back to try it: enjoying a glass of Champagne while admiring the sunset over the Außenalster should be on anyone’s to-do list while visiting Hamburg!
There’s something absolutely special in enjoying tea and coffee with friends on a Saturday morning while seated in one of the luxurious armchairs of the DaCaio British Bar. That is also an experience to be repeated!
If I were to describe The George in one sentence it would be: “A thoughtfully luxurious British Oasis on the shore of the Außenalster”
