Popcorn is available at the cinema with sugar or salt. Correct? Let us forget everything we thought we knew about popcorn. The truth is: for good popcorn you will need good ingredients. Good corn especially. But special toppings or ingredients are also excellently suitable to create a completely new snack, yes: even a culinary revolutionary. Propercorn, the most successful British snack brand of the past years, brings the popcorn hype now finally also to Germany and sets itself the goal to completely redefine popcorn as we know it. How about the flavors Sour Cream & Black Papper, Smooth Peanut & Almond, and Sweet Coconut & Vanilla ? Each of the lovingly designed Propercorn packs contains exclusively natural, vegetarian or vegan ingredients, is gluten-free and counts less than 130 Calories. Propercorn is immediately available in Germany as a single pack (20-30g) for 0,99 Euro or Sharing Bag (70-90g) for 2.29 Euro online at www.foodist.de as well as in selected Supermarkets (including Rewe and Edeka).
For Cassandra Stavrou popcorn was always far more than just a sweet or salted snack. Already as a child she began to work together with her father on new creations and flavours. The advantages are obvious: popcorn is the ideal finger food – low-calorie, light, durable and practical. In 2011, Cassandra Stavrou decided together with her partner Ryan Kohn to turn her childhood idea into a business plan and so laid the foundation for an outstanding success story.
With the firm intention to reinvent the snack, but without the necessary money Cassandra Stavrou initially mixed her popcorn creations in an ordinary cement mixer and used a spray gun to add the toppings. The efforts were rewarding: within a short time, Propercorn became the fastest growing snack brand in the UK, won numerous start-up and food prizes, and even sparked a real hype.
The brand maxim „Done properly“, which has now become a hashtag on the social networks, has always stood in the center and refers to more than just producing the popcorn. „Done properly defines our aspiration concerning everything we do”, says founder Cassandra Stavrou. „We want a brand and a business that brings out the best of everything. This applies to the production of our Popcorns as well as for all the other activities and entrepreneurial decisions.“
Meanwhile the Popcorn can be found at a variety of parties and fashion events and was the the official snack of the London Fashion Week. „Our love for fashion, design and art is not just reflected in such collaborations”, says Cassandra Stavrou. Indeed the matte-colorful and magnificently designed and illustrated bags demonstrate the brand ’s affinity to aesthetics and underline the fact that Propercorn is more than just another snack for in-between.
Cassandra’s father was a hopeless cook. He was, however, famous for his delicious popcorn. Together they experimented with countless toppings and ingredients and produced ever-new popcorn creations in their own London cuisine. In the year In 2011, Cassandra Stavrou founded together with her partner Ryan Kohn the brand Propercorn and set herself to redefine popcorn – healthy, with exciting flavours, made from exclusively natural ingredients, without additional sugars, preservatives and unnecessary fats. With the firm intention to reinvent the snack, but without the necessary money Cassandra Stavrou initially mixed her popcorn creations in an ordinary cement mixer and used a spray gun to add the toppings. The effort paid off: the company grew fast from the start and quickly took over the shelves of the great English supermarket chains. Today, some years and cement mixers later, the company produces its Propercorn in factories using genuine popcorn mixers and sells about three million bags a month in over ten countries across Europe with an annual turnover of more than ten million euros.
